Community case in Tāmaki under investigation

A positive Covid-19 case is under investigation after being identified in the community early this afternoon.

The case is in Auckland and a link to the border or managed isolation has not been established.

Te Ao Māori News understands ministers will be briefed by health officials at 4:30 PM to decide a course of action.

"A hard and early response is the best tool to stamp out any potential spread and everyone in New Zealand is asked to stay calm, be kind and play their part while we gather more information on the potential case," the Ministry of Health said in a statement.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern was expected to be in Tāmaki this week but has returned to Pōneke.

It is understood the prime minister and public health officials will address the nation at 6 PM.

Auckland Regional Public Health says it is undertaking contact tracing interviews with the positive case.

The Ministry of Health is advising anyone in Auckland who is taking public transport this afternoon or who cannot socially distance in public spaces to wear a mask.
