20th anniversary of Waikato-Tainui signing treaty settlement celebrated

A concert was held last night to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Waikato-Tainui signing their treaty settlement. Some of those who performed were at the signing 20 years go.

According to Maria Huata, “The proverb widely heard, that takes us back to the land wars our ancestors took part in is this - As land was taken, then land should also be returned.”

Josh Leys performed to highlight the relationships with Pākehā while also being a voice for the youth.  Jamey Ferguson, Leon Wharekura and Rewa Ututaonga were the local talents.

Annie Crummer and Three Houses Down appeared as the evening's guest performances.

Lucas Barker says, “I'm very fortunate to be born in this era as the land that was taken has been returned.”
