23-year-old arrested following West Auckland stabbing

A 23-year-old man has been arrested by Waitemata Police after the fatal stabbing of Ronald Clayton Karipa in Glendene, West Auckland on Saturday.

The man will appear in the Waitakere District Court today facing a charge of murder.

Police arrived at the scene around 9pm where the man was treated and transported to Auckland Hospital where he died soon after.

Te Kāea spoke to neighbour Natasha Khan who said the stabbing occurred in the driveway of the home of the deceased.

She says, "I think it happened around nine o'clock it was after we had dinner and I went to my room and all of a sudden I just heard lots of yelling. There was a lot of like kids and like older people hanging around at the bus stop area then I think a fight happened and everyone just ran off. I saw a car with like two females and then they came to a bus stop like they returned back with the male and they drove off. We heard someone say help but I think our neighbours called the Police for them."

Detective Inspector John Sutton says a post-mortem will take place today. He adds that they  still require more information on the incident and are asking the public to make contact with police.

"We are looking for any information, we are asking the public if they were in the scene or near that scene last night to come forward. We would also say that the three or four people that we believe were involved in this dispute with the deceased. We would like you to come forward and tell us what took place."

This fatal stabbing was one of two that occurred in West Auckland. In Te Atatu South a 36-year old woman was charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of another 36-year old woman.
