All Blacks team announced for Steinlager Series

The 2016 All Blacks side were named for the three test Steinlager Series against Wales starting next month. A few new faces join this year's team.

Meet your new All Black squad for this year.

There was much delight with the announcement of newcomer Damian McKenzie. The Waikato Chiefs player was anticipated to join the squad after outstanding performances over the season.

All Blacks Coach Steve Hansen says, “He's been in form, he's been exciting, he's still got a lot of things in his game that he needs to grow and we kinda expect that from a young guy, but it's an opportunity for us to not only look at the now but also the future.”

Damian McKenzie - Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Tainui says, “Still trying to get my head around it, it's a pretty surreal experience that I've been given so words can't really describe how excited I was. Rang mum and dad straight away and they were rapt for me and obviously they've been very supportive of me this far in my career. To be able to make this team is giving back to them so I'll try and make them proud as possible.”

Ngāti Porou's Charlie Ngātai, also joins the squad. This will be his second time wearing the black shirt after his debut in the Samoa test last year.

Te Kāea asked Charlie Ngātai if he felt like you he his foot in the door?

Ngātai - Ngāti Porou, Te Whakatōhea, Te Whānau-a-Apanui replied, “Little bit but not too sure because I haven't been playing for the last couple of weeks so it's hard to get a gage but nah I was rapt when I got the phone call and to come up here and be part of this team.”

The All Blacks will face their first match against Wales on June 11, under Kieran Reid who captains the team for the first time.
