American Hip Hop rapper Lil Jon reaches out to collaborate with Savage

New Zealand platinum rapper turned international star, Savage, has opened up to Te Kāea about his private life.

He talked about his health, fatherhood and getting the call-up to write music for American Hip Hop rapper, Lil Jon.

Savage says, “Just a couple of months ago I received an email from Lil Jon and I was kind of blown away, like I had to double check to make sure it was really him.”

Indeed, it really was him!  While Savage is re-inventing his music for the Trap genre, Lil Jon is heading in the same direction

“He sent me four songs, I wrote four songs for him and sent them back and we’re looking at doing some collaborations this year and it's just going to be a crazy year,” says Savage.

Savage found American billboard success after his song Swing appeared in Hollywood comedy, Knocked Up.

His recent collaboration with Timmy Trumpet Freaks went triple platinum in Australia.  But he says despite his success, he is a family man first and is getting his health back on track.

He says, “I'm trying to get my six-pack back, as we all do.  But at the end of the day I just want to live longer for my kids and like I said, I take my kids very seriously so it's crunch time this year and I have to make sure that everything turns out the way I want it to.”

This father of three says it's going to be a big year, but New Zealand will always be home.
