Aotea Senior Kapa Haka Regionals - Ngā Pakeke o Rātana

Originally established to support the Aotea Regionals in 2004, Ngā Pakeke o Rātana are the senior group to Te Reanga Mōrehu Rātana.

Today, their sweet voices soothed the crowd at New Plymouth's TSB Stadium just before the lunch break.

With a limited number of koroua in the line-up, their kuia take on a crucial role in helping to lift the group, along with the support of some of their youth.

In previous years, these kuia performed in Rātana haka groups from 1930 to the '90s.

The drive then was to support iwi from every region across Aotearoa, under the premise of the Rātana Church, Te Reo o Te Arepa, and Ngā Tai-Tamariki.

This includes their marae protocols, where these kuia are still present to welcome the masses.

Their tutors are Irihapeti Meremere and Jonothan Kaa, and Te Taepa Kameta.
