Aspiring Ngāti Porou artist working on her first album

Gisborne local Ariana Henare comes from a strong farming family, but it's not farming that's her passion but music. She has been gracing local stages for the last decade but she is now ready to take the leap and release her debut album this year.

One of Henare’s original songs is called, Hooked."

After a decade of singing covers with local and foreign musicians, she is now coming into her own as a songwriter.

“I think if I just a get a tune in my head and then I just start writing whatever comes to mind and then it sort of flows from there,” says aspiring artist Ms Henare.

Now she’s working on completing her very first album.

“I've only really just started writing and finishing them. I never used to play to anybody but the guitarist I played with just recently sort of got me to start playing them,” says Henare.

This self-taught guitarist is also a busy solo mum who works full time but is committed to keeping her eye on the prize.
