Auckland ASB Polyfest countdown begins

There are only two weeks left until one of the biggest festivals in NZ, the ASB Polyfest, gets underway in Auckland.

One of the kapa haka teams, Te Raukuraowaaku from Selwyn College, is preparing to perform on the Māori Stage.

Their tutor, Fiona Smith, says while she can't compare her team to secondary champs Western Springs College, all she really wants is for her performers to be confident.

“Our school is different to theirs.  They have a Māori immersion unit at their school, we're a mainstream school, but no matter, our Māori students are Ngāti Whātua and so they're lucky, they have their own marae and their land.”

The ASB Polyfest kicks off on March 12 and Te Raukuraowaaku as a whole is looking forward to supporting the 39th festival.
