Preparations for the annual Auckland City Mission Christmas day lunch was well underway today with thousands of the less fortunate expected by the hundreds of volunteers.
All the workers involved are volunteers who come every year to give their time in the spirit of Christmas.
Volunteers will have to prepare 240kg chicken, 300kg of ham, as well as an assortment of vegetables weighing in at 700kg.
For a sweet treat desert, there will be bucket-loads of jelly to go with the mountains of ice-cream and other festive fare.
Doors at the Viaduct Events Centre open at 11.30am with an impressive 2500 guests expected.
