The weekend has seen Auckland abuzz with activity as it celebrates its 175th birthday.

Free events along the city's waterfront have been set up to mark the occasion, which included a concert at Queen's Wharf and a majestic fireworks display off the Sky Tower and barges.

Last night, the Modern Māori Quartet performed on the deck of HMNZS Otago, berthed at Queen's Wharf, which marked their first official concert for 2015.

It's all about the "Sails" today with dragonboat races, tug boats, yachts and harbour blasters taking to the Waitematā, and the annual Ports of Auckland Anniversary Regatta kicking off at around noon.

Waka ama and waka hourua are also expected to be out on the water today just after noon, and there's an opportunity for the public to "have a go" at waka ama between 2pm-4pm off the Admiralty Steps.
