Gallery: AUTAIA gives aspiring Māori students an insight into tertiary studies

Auckland University of Technology opened its doors this week to Māori school students looking at their options for tertiary studies.  It was a chance for young students to gain an insight into tertiary Māori student life and achievement.

The day kicked off with an "amazing race" activity with reo-inspired clues leading participants to the finish line.

Tours around different faculties, accommodation areas, even the campus marae, Ngā Wai o Horotiu Marae, had the young students beaming with curiousity.

Kamo College, Tangaroa College, Te Kura Kaupapa Māori ā-Rohe o Māngere, Ngā Puna o Waiōrea, Hato Petera, Te Kura Māori o Ngā Tapuwae and Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Hoani Waititi Marae were among the schools who attended Autaia, with some of them performing for the masses throughout the day.

Other performances were also made by Rob Ruha, Storme Hitaua Barber Shop and the Māori Student Association group, Titahi ki TUA.

AUTAIA Māori Open Day followed a night of celebrating AUT's Māori Alumni, "Ki Tua - AUT Beyond" and their achievements since graduating.  The guest speaker of the night was Hone Paul, the current Tumukahuroa - Executive Director Marketing for Te Wānanga o Aotearoa, who spoke about his journey so far; where it began to where he is now.

More photos of AUTAIA and Ki Tua - AUT Beyond can be found on the AUTAIA facebook page, and more information can be found at the AUT website.
