Bill could favour Māori land owners

Māori land owners could soon be able to appoint trustees themselves without having to apply to the court, and also to design their own constitutions.

This is one of the likely changes being discussed at the first of the consultation hui between the Crown, iwi representatives and Māori land owners in Auckland today.

There were many questions and comments from the floor, however by the end most were happy with what the new law could look like.

Presuming the bill is still on the schedule for the upcoming Govt post elections, its first reading is set for the end of the year.
