Black Caps touch down on home soil

Following Sunday's loss to Australia in the grand-final of the Cricket World Cup, the Black Caps have touched down on home soil.

Tonight, their efforts will be celebrated here in Auckland by the many who have supported them through this campaign.

It was a wonderful and special day for the Black Caps.

This afternoon around 2:30pm, fans turned out in their droves at Auckland Airport to celebrate and welcome the team currently on everyone's lips, the Black Caps.

Hundreds of people were waiting, from the very young to the elderly. The huge support for our team was clear to see.

At around 1pm, people were already waiting there hours before the team arrived.  It was a clear indication of the huge support for the team.

After the team arrived at the airport, Te Kāea spoke to Trent Boult, descendant of Ngāi Tahu and star bowler.

He told us he was thrilled by the support for the team today.

There was another announcement today regarding Dan Vettori, one of the experienced hands in the Black Caps.

He confirmed today that he would be hanging up his cricket bat.  Shane Bond also addressed the crowd.

Shane is the team's bowling coach from Ngāi Tahu and said it's time to step away and he'll be leaving the team.

While he's deeply sad about that, he's also contented with the team's accomplishments.
