BMX star Sarah Walker elected to International Olympic Committee

Māori BMX sensation, Sarah Walker (Te Whakatōhea) has been elected as a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Walker, who won silver at the London Olympics in 2012, missed out on qualifying for her third Olympic Games after an injury-plagued build-up to Rio.

She was elected as a member for the IOC's session after being shoulder-tapped by IOC president Thomas Bach.

The New Zealand Olympic Committee (NZOC) nominated Walker for the IOC athletes commission, as part of its international advocacy programme, which aims to ensure NZ voices are heard within international sport.
