Today bargain-hunters have gone shopping for those Boxing Day discounts. One lucky young boy saved up to $500 by sacrificing and purchasing nothing for himself on Christmas Day.
It's meant to be a time to relax, but that wasn't the case and shoppers were out and about in droves today.
According to Kathryn Darwall from Sylvia Park, “we opened our doors at nine o'clock and as you can see we got a queue waiting to get in, and we've been having lines to pay so it's been a really full on day.”
Over 25,000 people came through Sylvia Park before lunchtime despite the craziness and the long lines. People are out to find a bargain on Boxing Day.
With no rest for the wicked, Liam Kemp of Ngāpuhi has long waited for this day.
Young Liam Kemp was one of those on a spending spree,. “I didn't get much, I was just given money to buy something for myself $500.”
The lines and crowds never bothered him, he told Te Kāea, “I bought some clothes from Hallensteins and some headphones.”
The projected estimate of cash intake today is $1 million, with technology and clothing the most bought items, but Boxing Day in the words of Liam.
Malls close today at 9pm.
