Cairo George fixated on defending title

Boxer Cairo George is to defend his IBO Asia Pacific Welterweight Title in Thames this weekend.

Named the "The Waikato Warrior", the 25-year will make his long-awaited return to the ring after he broke his left hand in a freak accident during a training session early last year.

Winning 11 of his pro fights so far, George is set to take on Australian fighter Daniel Ford in a 10-round bout that could put him on track for a world ranking.

For months George has been training at his home gym in Hamilton and will link up with renowned head trainer Lolo Heimuli who's in Brisbane with UFC Heavyweight Mark Hunt for his fight this month against Frank Mir.

Head trainer Heimuli will fly back to New Zealand from Australia tomorrow morning and meet up with George. Tomorrow night’s fight “Chaos of the Coromandel” starts at 6:30pm at the War Memorial Civic Centre in Thames.
