Call for Māori to be well-informed about proposed changes to Ture Whenua Māori

Law firm Holland Beckett is urging Māori to be well informed regarding the proposed changes to the Ture Whenua Māori Act. Consultation finished last week but written submissions don't close until next month.

Holland Beckett is overlooking the reform of the Māori Land Act.  They say Māori need to understand the seriousness of what's happening because time is running out.

Tania Te Whenua says, “Written submissions to the Government will close on August 7.”

Consultation meetings for the review of the Māori Land Act finished last week.  The Minister for Māori Development supported the reform of the act.

Te Ururoa Flavell says, “The time has come to reform the bill for the betterment of the Māori people.”

But Tania Te Whenua of Holland Beckett says that Māori need to submit their concerns about the proposed changes to the Māori Land Act, which mean a complete overhaul of the rules for Māori land.

Tania Te Whenua says, “We must not leave it our youth to fix the decisions we make today.”

Written submissions close in August.
