Cantabrian heads for Nepal to help with disaster relief

Co-founder of the Student Volunteer Army in Christchurch, Sam Johnson, is heading to Nepal to help with disaster relief for locals traumatised by the recent devastating earthquake.

On Saturday 25 April, Nepal was struck by a 7.8 earthquake, and currently officials say over 4200 people have died.

Johnson is co-chair of disaster trek with the Asia Pacific Alliance for Peace and Development team.

He says his team will be working with people in low risks area, similar to their experience when the Christchurch earthquake struck in 2011.

Johnson says, "There's a lot of actual connection between Christchurch and Nepal."
