City Mission's Christmas Walk of Fame supports vulnerable whānau

Tomorrow will see some of the greater Wellington stars acknowledged ahead of the Christmas period, when the Wellington City Mission begins laying down over 150 Christmas Walk of Fame Stars on Wellington's waterfront.

Individuals, groups and businesses have purchased naming rights of a star, to support Wellington's most vulnerable families, especially during the festive season.

Each star represents families who are working tirelessly to transform their lives with the help of The Mission. This includes food parcels, in-home support and budgeting advice.

The stars also represent the cost of providing these services for a specific time period, with funds going towards allowing the Mission to continue offering the services now and through to the new year.

The Mission also aims to sell at least another 50 stars in order to reach their target of $65,000

Wellington City Mission CEO, Michelle Branney says, “The Christmas Walk of Fame flips the Hollywood Walk of Fame idea on its head. We hope it’s a fun talking point for those who see it, but it also carries a message – highlighting some of the issues and hardship some families in Greater Wellington are facing."

The official launch date is Friday December 4.

You can get involved by visiting the Christmas Star website.
