Clean-up begins in Christchurch following flood of the century

A massive clean-up is underway after the flood of the century hit Christchurch this week, leaving hundreds of people without power and many homes with major flood damage.

It's been a double blow for the region, leaving hundreds questioning what the future holds for them.

The gale force winds and rain may have eased today, but the clear skies bring little relief for those affected by the floods.

For one family who only bought the house less than two years ago, they have many precious memories here, with the birth of their youngest and they would like to stay here.

For Toby Ellis and his pregnant wife, they live on one of the worst affected streets and the flooding has completely soaked through their foundations.

The weather is expected to stay fine for the next few days, giving engineers time to assess how to better improve action flood on risks.
