Couple attempt natural alternative to combat Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

One in five NZ women suffer from Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, which can affect a woman's ability to have children.

Bronwyn and her husband Ricci Liaki are facing this challenge head on.  For 13 years, the couple have been trying to have a baby without any success.

“I have polycystic ovaries so I can't have a baby,” says Mrs Liaki.

They lost their stillborn daughter at 21 weeks. Now the couple are attempting a natural alternative to help them conceive.

Mrs Liaki says, "If I'm overweight, it's difficult for me to have a baby. That's why we're doing this, to lose weight through fitness and healthy eating."

They've created a personal blog on Facebook, resulting in other benefits for the couple.

“The time we've been together we've looked after everyone else’s baby, so we want to look after our own,” said Mr Liaki.

The pair’s trainer, Rewiti Kaire says, “It's amazing because it's a real reason, they really want this, and I know that because I'm getting to know them personally, and it makes my heart warm.”

They also plan to explore other fertility options in the new year.
