Despite dwindling numbers, Rātana Church looks to future

Rātana Pā often resembles the Lion's Den but behind it all they have only one driving force.

According to the Church's chairman, Waka Paama, “It's good that political representatives will be attending and that we can invite them here to celebrate with us, the birthday of our founder.”

Numbers attending the pā have dwindled during the years but the chairman says that's a not a new thing.

“It's not really a concern.  Over the years, the numbers have fluctuated but our main focus is doing what needs to be done.”

"The next generation is the future.  If we neglect them, we could face losing our Church."

In another four years, the Church will celebrate its 100th anniversary.

Waka Paama says, “Everyone is welcome and included in the celebration. That was the vision of our father, Tahupōtiki Wiremu Rātana, to unite all tribes and the role of the Mōrehu people is to see that through.”

The future of the Rātana Church remains to be seen, however, for now the Holy Spirit remains strong amongst its followers.
