Edgy Miromoda showcase wows at New Zealand Fashion Week

Miromoda is Māoridoms top fashion designers and top Māori model on one catwalk.

Mitchell Vincent designer from Ngāti Tūwharetoa says, "We are whānau now, this is what we are and we come together every year and we love it, this is what we love to do.”

The 13 Māori designers featured in Miromoda's show were plucked from a pool of designers from around the world.

Co-founder of Miromoda Ata Te Kanawa says, "I'm very very satisfied that we've put together a punchy kind of a show, but then I'd say that wouldn't I.  Just a little bit bias but I hope to think that we kicked it."

But for Ngāti Ruanui designer Bobby Campbell featuring at New Zealand Fashion Week was a dream come true.

He says, “I started off as an usher here; I kind of grew over the years.  I used to pick up people's rubbish, we had certain shifts that we had to do I would stay a whole day because I liked, seeing it and I would volunteer my time.”

Going from showing people to their seats, to people booking seats to see his collection, Bobby says it was all worth it.

International Māori model and winner of New Zealand's Next Top Model, Danielle Hayes walked for Miromoda for the first time, even giving first-time model Waiaria Putaranui some tips.

Putaranui (Ngāti Maniapoto) told Te Kāea, "I was just trying to focus of one spot, and Dani, she was like "just breath" so I was just trying to breath."
