Farmers rally for Ruataniwha Water Storage Scheme

It was a mass turn out of tractors, trucks and motor vehicles that stretched for kilometres, farmers, contractors and businesses uniting to voice their support for the Ruataniwha Dam.

Farmers say there just isn't enough water to irrigate land, but the dam proposal can bring some relief to the dry land.

The draft proposal has seen potential investors withdraw, a board of inquiry appointed by the Govt and staunch iwi opposition, but farmers say people don't understand the benefits it could bring for generations to come.

E noho tōtara waahi rua ana ngā whakaaro o ngā tāngata o Te Matau a Māui me te motu hoki, heoi, kei ngā ringa o te poari tirotiro, te whakatau whakamutunga.

It's a controversial topic that has divided opinions, not only with the people here in Hawke's Bay, but across the country, but the final decision lies with the board of inquiry.
