A 75-year-old man from Tauranga died Saturday afternoon as a result of an accident in the bush.
He was one of a group of 11 trampers in the Waioeka Gorge near Ōpōtiki.
They were heading for the Nīkau Flats Hut, when the man fell 20m down a bank, hit his head, and died around 12:15pm.
The death has been referred to the Coroner.
