Final season of Code on Māori Television

After 11 seasons of showcasing the world of sports, Code will screen for the last time on Māori Television on the 15th of October.

Since airing for the first time on Māori Television the show has highlighted the talent, humour and skill of a number of athletes both from New Zealand and abroad with a strong focus on talented Māori sportspeople.

With five episodes remaining, fans of the show are being encouraged to tune in and support the team before the programme ends its partnership with Māori Television.

Produced by Toa TV, the show has been part of Māori Television’s schedule for 11 seasons.

The shows current hosts Jenny-May Coffin and Wairangi Koopu were joined this year by Liam Messam, Fran Kora, Maria Tutaia and Konrad Hurrell.

Māori Television’s Head of Content Mike Rehu says the change is part of a wide-ranging review of Māori Television’s content.

“We have just completed a significant audience segmentation research project which will provide the base for our content strategy for the next three years,” he says.

Mr Rehu says declining viewer numbers and an appetite for a refreshed sports show are the key reasons for the decision.

“Māori Television would like to thank Toa TV and the Code team for entertaining us and presenting a human side to sport.”

Mr Rehu says consideration is being given to proposals which offer a fresh new approach to sports for the 2016 programming season.
