Fire Fighters efforts make a difference

Through the efforts of the Fire Service, many of those suffering from blood cancers like leukaemia can get the support they need.

Around 700 fire-fighters rised to the challenge to climb the Auckland's Sky Tower in their kit that weighs 25kgs.

12 fire-fighters took it upon themselves to walk from as far as the Bay of Islands to complete the Sky Tower Challenge, and on top of that to bring more awareness to leukaemia and to promote the fire service.

According to Maaka McKinney, “We started in Waitangi and arrived here today”

More than $860,000 was raised for Leukaemia and Blood Cancer NZ (LBC), but tomorrow will be a better indication on whether or not the target of $1 million was reached.
