Five people drown over holiday period

Fishermen dominate the holiday drowning toll. A total of five people drowned during the official holiday period.

Water Safety New Zealand says it's below the normal five year average,       

The official drowning toll started on December 24 and finished today.

Two drowned at Maunganui Bluff while fishing,one drowned while fishing off the wharf at Kauri Point near Katikati.

Another drowned while diving near Motiti Island while the fifth drowning on record occurred in a home bathtub, all were male.
