Forestry deaths remembered at Workers Memorial Day

Many family members of those who've died in our forests were present at today's workers' memorial service.

Council of Trade Union (CTU) says, 11 of the 51 workers who died at work were forestry workers, which makes forestry the most dangerous industry to work in.

CTU is taking legal action against two forestry companies over the deaths of workers.

Tomorrow CTU member's will hit the streets of Wellington, to raise funds for a new Workers' Memorial Fund, to help fund legal support, advice, advocacy and representation to victims' families.

The campaign will end at the footsteps of Parliament, so that their concerns can be heard by those who have the power to make the workplace safe.
