This afternoon, Corrections Minister Kelvin Davis will reveal the government's plans for Waikeria Prison.
This comes after the previous National government planned to spend roughly $1bil on expanding the prison, to potentially house up to 3,000 prisoners. Last month the government confirmed that this would not go ahead.
The King Movement also waded into the debate saying the money would be better spent on rehabilitation and reintegration.
