Governor General unphased by stoush at Waitangi

Some heated exchanges and jostling was seen at Waitangi today as the Governor General Sir Jerry Mateparae was welcomed on to Te Tiiī Marae.

The Governor General was accompanied by Titewhai Harawira and as they entered the whare some jostling occurred with her daughter Hinewhare Harawira.

However following reports of the incident the Governor General tweeted that he was not jostled, although he was aware of something happening in front of him he did not feel unsafe or threatened in any way during the pōhiri.
