Groundbreaking NZ feature film underway

Filming has begun on an innovative New Zealand film project, Waru.

The project brings together eight short films directed by women into one feature.

Scenes for one of the short films began shooting at Māori Television's studio and newsroom today and is being directed by Chelsea Winstanley.

The feature film is being produced by Brown Sugar Apple Grunt Productions and showcases rising Māori talent in the film industry.

Producer, Kiel McNaughton said the kaupapa was exciting and very challenging.

“We are supporting a number of incredible creatives while working towards a cohesive and original journey for audiences,” he said.
