The Te Matatini competition always kicks off with the race for the best seats. Some die-hard fans even made and early appearance this morning to get the best vantage point.
A spectator at today’s event says, “People came running from everywhere to secure a good spot."
Each team also had their support crews on deck for the conclusion of performances. One group in particular caught the eye of an onlooker in the crowd.
“This morning was Christchurch, Ngāi Tahu, the locals. Yes, the locals have definitely shook the earth this morning.”
Despite the need for the most comfortable spot in the crowd, some also showed courtesy for others, “Somebody said to us that our seats are too high, so my partner went off to buy a bean bag.”
With day one now wrapped up, no doubt people will be quick and snappy for tomorrow’s best seats.
