Haka performed as final poroporoāki to Royals

The haka, ‘He Oranga Mai’ performed by hundreds of kaihaka at Tūrangawaewae Marae was the final poroporoāki to the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall.

The event began just before midday today with an impressive pōhiri for the Royal couple followed by speeches, meeting other guests and a waka salute from kaihoe on the Waikato River.

Māori Television broadcast the visit live with host Matai Smith who was joined by a number of guests throughout the day who explained the significance of each event as it took place.

Prince Charles addressed the gathering and thanked all those involved in the warm and memorable welcome provided, particularly for his wife Camilla on her very first visit to Tūrangawaewae Marae.
