Hamilton City Tigers win Waicoa Bay final

The Hamilton City Tigers came back from behind, to win the WaiCoa Bay club rugby league final this weekend.

They beat the Pacific Sharks from Tokoroa, at home at Resthills Park in Hamilton.

However, the hosts took longer than expected to get on the board. The Pacific Sharks led from the start, scoring one try in the first half and immediately in the second half.

it looked like the Sharks were going to win their first title ever, after making it to their first WaiCoa final, leading the match 18-0 with just over 30 minutes to go.

But a 'never say die' attitude from the Tigers saw the Tigers come back, much to the elation of their home crowd, to score four tries, all converted by Player of the Year Vaughan Calcinai.

The fourth was scored in the final minute, to win the match 24 - 19.

Hamilton City Tigers player Eruera Keepa says, "That was a huge battle, do or die, we knew we had to give our all. We knew at halftime the game wasn't finished."

It's the third consecutive title for the side, and the fifth title overall.

Hamilton City Tigers 24 (Ray Wallace 2, Namu Puru, Vaughan Calcinai tries; Vaughan Calcinai 4 goals)

Pacific Sharks 19 (Vinnie Morunga, Callin Tereu, Denzil Manu tries; Kale Pomare 3 goals, Vinnie Morunga field goal)

Halftime score: 0-8.
