Hamilton Girls High School come home as Sanix World 7s champions

The Hamilton Girls High School 7s rugby team travelled to Japan for the 2015 Sanix World Youth Rugby Championship.

They took on home side Fukuoka in their first pool game, in a hard fought contest with two girls being sent to the sin bin and a total of 10 penalties against them, going down 21-22.

They had to adapt to the style of rugby in Japan learning a lot from the first game, they beat Kanagawa 31-5.

Coach Krystal Koua said, "A solid team effort, striking wide and being confrontational in defence."

They took on the Canadian invited side Robert Bateman with a convincing win 24-0.

On day two of the tournament, the girls beat Japan's Iwami Chisuikan High School 17-0 in the semi-final, setting up the final clash against unbeaten Fukuoka.

The girls started the game well, with an early try and eventually ran away with the match winning 31-12.

Koua said, "The game score didn't reflect how tight the game was, girls emptied the tank 10 minutes each way."

They return from their trip today as the newly crowned Sanix Youth World Rugby 7s Champions.
