Hamilton Mainstream School Unveils New Pou Whakairo

A Hamilton mainstream school unveiled their new carved post today.  Pukete Primary School commissioned the pou be carved, to honour and deepen the school's relationship with the local subtribes of Ngāti Wairere and Ngāti Koura

Carved by local expert carver Wiremu Puke and Sam Roa (Ngāti Maniapoto), Te Pou Kaitiaki o Pukete stands at 7.9 metres tall.

School Teacher aide, Hakoea Nepia says, “30% of our students are Māori, but it's important for us to teach all our children about the Māori world, so that the knowledge continues on.”
