Hawke's Bay's Big Easy continues despite the rain

The Big Easy became the 'big wet' today, as around 1300 people braved the wet conditions and soldiered on through the rain. The event covers a cycle trail through almost 50km of the best of Hawke's Bay scenery.

Despite the not so perfect conditions, they still came in their droves to make start-line here in Taradale.

Annie Dundas from Tourism Hawkes Bay says, “Well the Big Easy has been around for four years now and it is really about promoting the wonderful trails which are fantastic our fantastic cycle trails that we have here.”

As the morning continued the cloud turned into rain, and cyclists made their way around the 43km distance.

Some of the participants had this to say about the event…

“The weather's not that great but you know it's typical Hawkes Bay people we just get out there and we do it.”

“I heard there's lots of stops along the way so good to see Hawkes Bay in itself in a different perspective and an active perspective.”

“Pictures of people stopping to have a beer at the pub.”

Families involved are encouraged to take their time rather than see who can get to the finish line first.
