Heavy rainfall causes flooding in Coromandel

Two main roads in the Coromandel remain closed following yesterday's heavy rainfall that caused extensive flooding and slips.

The New Zealand Transport Agency says slips have caused SH25 Thames Coast Road and the main road between Kopu and Hikuai to close.

Roads may reopen this afternoon.

More than 140mm of rain fell in less than 12 hours on Sunday, leaving areas of the Coromandel Peninsula underwater.
