Hurricanes take to annual Surf To Peak challenge

The Hurricanes are striving to strengthen their play in the lead-up to this year's Super Rugby competition.

Yesterday the coaches arranged the annual Surf to Peak Challenge, and it was there that the Hurricanes hard work and dedication was apparent.

The Hurricanes found themselves partaking in a 24km challenge.  It’s clear that it was the most difficult training of the year.

According to Tim Bateman, “I don't feel the best at the moment after that.  It was a big effort.  We came in at about an hour.  It's my first time doing Surf to Peak.  It was actually good fun."

TJ Perenara said, “I'm still not at playing condition at the moment.  Still about a month until our first game so it's a work in progress, but I’m happy where I am at the moment.”

Strategising is what's on the cards in the weeks to come, but Perenara also has his own goals.

“Personal goals are to just do my job well, not try and do anything out of the ordinary just do my core job.  And for the boys, we just want to work hard, we want to be the hardest working team there is.

If we work harder than any other team then everything else will come on top of that."

In time we'll know whether those hopes come to fruition.
