A settlement at Ihumātao could be imminent.
Protest leader Pania Newton has told TVNZ the Prime Minister has become involved in negotiations.
Newton says the government is looking to buy the land from Fletcher Building and would appoint a trust board to run it.
Protest group SOUL opposes the proposed housing development at Ihumātao in Māngere and has occupied the site since 2015.
