Incident at Taradale Primary School an accident

Police are treating an incident at Taradale Primary School as an accident.

Yesterday afternoon at approximately 1:15pm, police were called to Taradale Primary School in the Hawke's Bay after a pupil was found unconscious and having difficulty breathing.

It is understood the 9-year-old boy leapt out of the window while playing, when his shirt became caught on something.

Teachers tended to the young boy, lifting him up while unhooking his shirt. Ambulance staff needed to resuscitate him upon their arrival.

He was flown to Auckland's Starship Children's Hospital and is currently in an induced coma.
