Inmates giving back through Te Huarahi Oranga project

Inmates at Auckland's Correctional Facility for Women are being rehabilitated through a horticulture project called Te Huarahi o Te Oranga.  It's not only inmates who benefit from the programme, but also families in need.

Te Huarahi Oranga horticulture project is helping women prisoners to acquire skills in horticulture.

The project has been operating for 6 months.  The food grown from these gardens is also being donated to families in need living in the wider South Auckland region.

Rehabilitating the prisoners is the focus.  Seven Māori inmates are involved in this project.

One inmate hopes to make use of her skills when she is released from prison.
