International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2015

People around the world celebrated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities today.  A day encouraging their inclusion into society and not leaving them as outsiders.

Mary Gallagher of CCS Disability Action says, “It's about recognising that people should be included in the community within their work within the environment really.”

The day is used as an opportunity to mobilise support for the disabled to help overcome any issues they need help with

Katrina Simmonds says, “I still think that we have an issue with accepting others who may be different, look different, act different, I still think that is one of the biggest barriers but we have still come a long way.”

The government Disability Action Plan called for feedback on how to reduce barriers to employment, transport and improve quality of life.

The action plan is to help make sure that disabled people get their rights and take part in the community.
