ITI exhibition inspired by Tūhoe people

Yesterday was the opening night for ITI, an exhibition showcasing paintings by Tame Iti and photography by Birgit Krippner.

The exhibition will take place at Melanie Rogers Gallery in Auckland from January 27 to February 6.

Krippner has made regular visits within the iwi of Tūhoe to complete the on-going project.

The photos in the exhibition focus on documenting the Tūhoe 2014 Treaty settlement with the Crown, an important time in Tūhoe history.

Through the settlement, the spiritual home of Tūhoe was rightfully returned, marking the transition from grievance to a future promising greater self-determination.

Work in this series has been exhibited in Wellington in February 2015 and San Francisco in April 2015.
