Iwi leaders descend on Otiria Marae

The sun is shining over Otiria Marae this morning and proceedings for the funeral of Erima Henare have moved onto the forecourt.

Hone Harawira was part of the first contingent to be welcome on to the marae this morning and brought with him a flag which he placed on Mr Henare's coffin.

Meanwhile a large contingent including two busses have arrived from Tainui. Māori King Tuheitia Paki is leading the delegation which has strong ties to the Henare family.

This will be the last day Erima Henare will lie at Otiria Marae, tomorrow he will be taken to his home marae of Motatau and will be buried there on Monday.

Te Kaea will be providing updates throughout the day and our reporter Maiki Sherman will be coming live from the Otiria Marae at 5.30pm.
