John Key’s presence at fundraiser turns heads

John Key arrived for dinner to help fundraise for the Māori Party, now it's fuelling the political fires.

Te Kāea Political reporter Maiki Sherman asked Māori Party co-leader Tariana Turia, how they could criticise Hone Harawira and his intentions with Kim Dotcom claiming he's just after the money, given the Māori Party is essentially making money off of its relationship with National?

Turia responded, “We are fundraising, we were fundraising, the people who we invited were friends with the Māori Party. I can't quite draw the connection between that and Kim Dotcom.”

Hone Harawira says,"National and the Māori Party are one party.”

The question now is, whether the Māori Party are indebted to the Prime Minister for his help following the general elections?

“As far as we're concerned we're in a government relationship with them and that's the limit of it”, says Turia.

The Māori Party says this isn't the first time they've used John Key in their fundraising. Before the bi-election in Ikaroa-Rāwhiti they held another dinner where they raised $40,000.

In the end it will be up to voters to decide just who sits at the table and who ends up washing dishes.
