Kaimai Ranges missing hunters safe and well

Two missing hunters are safe and well having made their own way out of the Kaimai Ranges.

The pair made their way out to State Highway 29, near Ngamuwahine Road, where they were able to use their mobile phone to contact family at approximately 11am.

At approximately 4:20pm yesterday, Police were advised of two overdue deer hunters in the Kaimai Ranges.  Two men aged 44 and 20 reportedly entered the bush from Whakamarama Road, about 4am and were due to return at 9am.

They managed to make a cell phone call to family at 11am to advise they were lost, just prior to the cell phone cutting out.

Police SAR and volunteer Land Search and Rescue teams were activated and had been searching overnight in the bush.

They have been picked up by family and are tired and cold but require no medical assistance.
