Cricket umpire Kathy Cross is the inaugural Hutt Valley Sports Awards, Hutt News - Upper Hutt Leader Supreme Award winner. At a highly charged event in the Walter Nash Stadium, the International Cricket Umpire won the Trophy from the nine other Category Winners.
Kathy Cross (Ngāti Maniapoto) is a person who hides from the spotlight. But the overall champion couldn't escape the many eyes that grazed over her, as she was announced the supreme winner.
Cross says, “I can't explain it in words, very humbled by it, really don't know what else to say”.
Supported with a haka by her two sons when she was named the overall winner, Cross has been nominated in the last 5 years of the sports awards, last night Cross was named the supreme winner at the Inaugural Hutt Valley Sports Awards.
Cross this year became the first female to officiate at ICC World Twenty20 level by umpiring the women's match featuring Pakistan and Bangladesh in Chennai.
