Gallery: Kaumātua Kapa Haka Festival 2015

Te Papa Museum was host to the NZ Post Kaumātua Kapa Haka Festival, He Kura Te Tangata this weekend, which attracted hundreds of performers from around the country.

11 kaumātua groups performed on Saturday, and then again on Sunday, to a crowd of their greatest supporters, including their tamariki mokopuna.

Classics such as ‘Te Ope Tuatahi’ by Sir Apirana Ngata and ‘E Pari Rā’ by Paraire Tomoana featured at the two-day event.

Kaumātua Kapa Haka, which commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Māori Contingent landing at Anzac Cove, Gallipoli, is part of Te Papa Matariki celebrations.

Here are a few snaps taken from Sunday's performances.  The He Kura Te Tangata - Pakeke Kapa Haka series premieres on Monday 3 August at 6:00pm on Māori Television.

More photos from Saturday can be found on the Te Kāea facebook page.
